Their applications stood out amongst the pool of students who applied for these prestigious scholarships. The MPAFOP would also like to thank the area teachers who assisted in selecting this year’s winners.

John Libby Memorial Scholarship Recipient: Eric is currently attending the University of North Texas pursuing a degree in Computer Science.

Dave "Wojo" Waldschmidt Memorial Scholarship Recipient: Kylea has just graduated high school and will be attending Collin College to pursue a career in nursing.

Again, congratulations to Eric and Kylea! Good luck and study hard!

About the Officers Behind the Scholarships

John Libby was a police officer with the McKinney Police Department who tragically died in an off-duty vehicle accident in 2013. Libby was a family man who loved his children dearly. He was friendly, never lacking a smile and always wanted to make people laugh. Libby was dedicated to serving the citizens of McKinney and was always there to lend a hand.

David “WOJO” Waldschmidt was a Sergeant with the McKinney Police Department for many years who died in 2011. Wojo was what he would describe as "a good human". Wojo was the type of leader who earned the respect of officers because they knew he cared. Wojo was committed to the community and the betterment of the law enforcement profession.

Both officers were loved by all and for the last several years, the MPAFOP #107 has created these scholarships in their honor.
